During the 19th century, it was common for travelers to purchase real vampire hunting kits, in preparation for their travels to Eastern Europe. The kits contained a wooden stake, a bible, crucifix, a pistol with lead bullets, gun powder, garlic and glass vials with various concoctions and supposedly magical potions to ward off vampires.

Interestingly, these kits pre-dated Bram Stoker's book Dracula and other novels about vampires, pointing to how seriously people took the threat of vampires back then, due to oral history and rich folklore.

Nowadays you can buy Vampire Slayer Kits on Amazon, but they're meant to be novelty items, rather than actual self defense or survival kits.

Why do you think people are so fascinated with vampires?
